Being part of the Panther family definitely has its perks. Being a student at Georgia State means that you can enjoy a range of services and opportunities that you can benefit from during your academic career. We’ve compiled a list of the several Panther Perks available to you when you chose to enroll at Georgia State.
Cinefest=FREE Movies
You can enjoy watching movies for FREE on campus! Cinefest screens a wide variety of films for the community including cult classics, foreign films, documentaries, independent films and Atlanta premieres. With students’ crazy schedules in mind, Cinefest screens movies in the afternoon and evening, so you won’t miss any major blockbusters! View the full movie schedule here. You can enjoy the movie with popcorn, beverages, candy and snacks, which can all be purchased at the Cinefest theatre. Save money and enjoy the convenience of a Cinefest flick.
Recreational Services
As a Georgia State student, you automatically gain membership to the Recreation Center. Membership means that you’ll have full access to the services and programs that the student Recreation Center has to offer, such as aquatic classes, intramurals, the Indian Creek Recreation area, personal training, sports clubs, equipment checkout (e.g. camping equipment, kayaks), nutrition consultation and personal training. Touch the Earth, the Rec Center’s outdoor recreation program offers backpacking, hang gliding and whitewater rafting trips to name a few!
Discounted Tickets
Georgia State’s discounted tickets provide students with the opportunity to get involved in everything the city has to offer, for less. GSU offers discounted tickets for movies, theme parks and other entertainment which can all be purchased at the Information Center at Student Center East. Discounted tickets range from Georgia Aquarium, Six Flags over Georgia, Walt Disney World, Regal Entertainment, Medieval Times and Atlanta United FC. There are also discounts for a wide range of restaurants (at all locations), offering up to 25% off food purchases. To name a couple, Tin Lizzy’s Cantina and Moe’s Original Bar B Que offer discounted prices for Georgia State students, faculty and staff. Check out a full list of restaurants that offer discounts. Your Student ID card will be your best friend, take it everywhere you go–several clothing stores offer student discounts as well!
Sporting Events
Students receive FREE admission to each regular-season home game. Visit GSUStudentTickets.com on your mobile device to access your student football tickets/parking and basketball tickets. No need to stress or fuss about parking, as a limited number of parking passes are available to students via GSUStudentTickets.com (1 pass per student). You can also take a shuttle with your friends and other Georgia State students. Pickup occurs on game day at The Commons.
Academic Resources
There are various academic resources offered to currently enrolled students, from library research services, free blue books from Student Government Association and career counseling from the University Career Services.
If you’re in need of books or journal articles that are not found in Georgia State University collections, you can request for them using GSU’s Interlibrary Loan/GIL Express services. Take advantage of these services and let your thorough research show in your academic writing.
If you’re thinking about life after college, drop-in to University Career Services for assistance with resume writing, career planning, job search, internships, mock interviews, and graduate school planning. You can request for a 30- or 60-minute appointment through Handshake.
So you want to be an entrepreneur? Located on the 1st floor of 58 Edgewood Avenue is LaunchGSU, a great spot for students with a startup idea who need assistance with the process. The purpose of LaunchGSU is to provide space, mentorship, connections, and workshops.
