Your Guide to Online Orientation
While we wish we could be on campus together this summer for New Student Orientation (NSO), our orientation team has put together an online system designed to build your Panther pride and get you ready for your first semester! There are just a few simple steps you’ll need to take for a successful orientation.
1. Register for NSO
If you haven’t already registered for orientation, stop reading now and register through your status check! This is the most important step. By securing your NSO date, you’re letting us know you plan to attend Georgia State and checking a big item off your to-do list. Don’t forget to mark your calendar for your registered date. Be on the lookout for an email from WebEx (the system we use for online meetings) that will send you a calendar invite and link to your virtual session. Also, you’ll need your CampusID and password for online orientation and NSO, so make sure those are activated!
2. Complete Online Orientation
Put on your favorite Georgia State t-shirt and settle in for this 30-minute, self-guided session. Online orientation will walk you through what it means to go #TheStateWay with sections on student life, housing, student services, financial aid and Panther Welcome. Completing this quick seminar is required before attending your registered date.
3. Fill out Your Advising Form
Keep an eye on your email for your advising form. Every student type has a different link, so it’s important you use yours. This form is your opportunity to let us know what kind of classes you’d like to take. The sooner you fill out this form, the sooner our Advisors can confirm your registration. Our advisement team will use your preferences to start building a schedule.
4. Attend NSO!
Remember, your access link will come from WebEx, not Georgia State. If you don’t see it in your email, be sure to check your spam. On this day, you’ll meet virtually with your advisor and finalize the details for your upcoming semester. The 2-hour session will also connect you with an orientation leader and fellow new students! All you’ll need for your virtual session is your campusID and password. Note: if you don’t show up for your session, your classes will be dropped and you’ll have to register for a new date. Booooo. If you need to reschedule your date, email email@example.com.
And don’t forget to let your guests know… that they cannot attend your virtual orientation session. We’ll repeat: No guests (parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, etc.) allowed during your virtual NSO. This is your time to plan for the future without outside interference. There are tons of people who will support you on your college journey, but decisions about which classes you take and what to study can only be made by you. (And it violates FERPA.) Your loved ones are encouraged to help you stay on track, though, and join us for upcoming events we’ve planned just for them!
The best part of this new orientation system is that you can get started right now! Register for NSO, complete online orientation any time (the sooner the better) and attend an NSO session before your semester starts. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions. We look forward to officially welcoming you to the Panther Family!
