What Happened at Welcome Week
How does free food, live music and laughing until your stomach hurts sound to you? If any of those ideas sound fun, you would have loved the Welcome Week events on Georgia State’s Campus. Not sure what Welcome Week events are? Don’t worry, I’ll share all of the excitement that takes place on campus in the first few weeks, so you’ll know what you might expect as a Georgia State student. Keep reading below for more fun!
Cinema Under the Stars
If school spirit and sports activities sound like your thing, you would’ve loved last week’s Cinema Under The Stars. A few days before classes, we gathered at Center Parc Credit Union Stadium to watch the cheerleaders’ and football players’ put on a practice game and pep rally. We ended the night on “a chill vibe” watching Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Convocation and Block Party
The next day we connected at the First-Year Convocation and Block Party. 40 under 40 speaker Evan Malbrough delivered the keynote speech, and we welcomed the class of 2026! Right after Convocation, we danced at the Block Party, enjoyed free food and (if we were lucky) snapped a selfie with Pounce!
Comedy Show
We laughed until our stomachs ached while comedians @iamzoie (Vena E. Zoie) and @darrenbrand_ (Darren Brand) put on a show. Students were welcomed onto the stage, roared with laughter and everyone had a great time. Check out the recap video here for the highlights!
What’s Next
Of course, other events took place last week, but we wanted to share our favorites! The next few weeks are sure to bring fun as well. Between the Foamalicious Party, our first home football game of the year and the Student Involvement Fair, you’d certainly have a good time!
