Complete these Steps Before Attending Georgia State University this Fall
We’re excited to welcome you to Georgia State University this fall! To make this transition as smooth as possible, we’ve compiled a list of helpful information to guide your move to the downtown campus. Keep reading for more information on Orientation, placement exams, housing and more.
Orientation
You’ve made it this far. Now what? We’re happy you asked; New Student Orientation is up next. New Student Orientation is a required step for first-year students! First, students need to complete their Start @ State modules and then register for an in-person Orientation session.
Students will hear from Academic Advising, College to Career speakers (and more), meet New Student Orientation leaders and get a campus tour.
At the completion of New Student Orientation, students will register for classes! If you haven’t already registered for New Student Orientation, click the link here.
Housing
Student housing is open for the Fall semester and students that have completed their required next steps can move in on August 16-20, 2023. If you still need to secure your housing, remember to apply and begin your roommate selection for your on-campus housing.

Placement Exam
Some majors may need to take a Math Placement Exam. Additionally, if you wish to enroll in a course higher than Math 1001, you must take a placement exam before attending New Student Orientation and registering for classes.
Our math placement exam can be taken through iCollege, in-person at our Testing Center or online through ACCUPLACER’s Examity.

Complete the 2023-2024 FAFSA
Complete your 2023-2024 FAFSA for this upcoming school year! FAFSA stands for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and is a form that you complete to receive financial aid that will lessen the cost of your education.
The FAFSA is relatively easy and can be completed entirely online. Whether you plan on having a work-study job while on campus, or receiving a sizable financial aid package, the first step is to complete your FAFSA. Submit your FAFSA as soon as possible to maximize all of the free aid that’s available to you.
