🧠 Study Tips for Midterm Survival
Beware of the Cramming Curse!
Space out your study sessions. Plan your study sessions well before midterms in chunks of time. Use the 2-hour study blocks method with 15-minute breaks in between to let your brain breathe.
Practice Makes Perfect Potions (or Close Enough)
Practice is like concocting the perfect potion for success! Don’t just reread your notes—quiz yourself! Whether it’s creating flashcards or teaching your study material to a friend, make sure to engage often with the content. It might feel a little eerie at first, but the more you engage with the material the stronger your memorization will become!
Get Vampire Visual
Channel your inner artist—draw pictures, use color-coded charts, highlighters, or create mind maps. Visual aids can help you see connections and sink your fangs into the material. Plus, they make studying more fun! If your study notes start to look like a haunted forest of information, that’s okay. As long as you can navigate the spooky maze, you’re on the right track!
Group Ghouls!
Take advantage of GSU’s Group Study Rooms in the library. Studying with a coven of friends can make midterm prep feel less terrifying and isolated. Plus, each room has a whiteboard and some even come with TV displays for presentations! You can reserve your spot in the library 21 days in advance. Grab your books and cauldrons and reserve that study room. Teamwork makes the scream work!
Don’t Forget to Self-Care
Just like a winding road in a thriller movie, self-care goes a long way! Whether it’s a quick walk outside during study breaks, some stretching, or a cup of your favorite pumpkin-spiced drink, taking time to relax is essential to surviving the midterm madness. Make sure to check out our Mindfulness Room at the Atlanta Library for a peaceful escape when you need it! The Mindfulness Rooms provide a safe space for some peace and quiet where you can dim the lights, close your eyes, and just be.
