National High School Counselor Appreciation Week: Thank You for All You Do!
At Georgia State University, we know that behind every successful student, there’s a dedicated high school counselor guiding them toward their goals. During National High School Counselor Appreciation Week, we want to take a moment to celebrate YOU and express our heartfelt gratitude for everything you do. Your expertise and dedication are critical in helping students thrive, and we’re proud to partner with you.
As a token of our appreciation—and to make your job a little easier—we’ve gathered key resources and tools designed specifically for high school counselors. Whether it’s staying up to date with our admissions process, organizing campus visits, or sharing GSU swag with your students, we’ve got you covered!
Educator’s Guide
Think of this as your go-to resource for everything Georgia State! Our Educator’s Guide provides a comprehensive overview of GSU’s admissions requirements, academic programs, key dates, and scholarship opportunities. Whether you’re advising a first-year student or a transfer applicant, this guide has everything you need to help your students prepare for life as a Panther.
Assigned Admissions Counselor
Every high school has a designated GSU admissions counselor ready to assist you and your students. Whether you have questions about the application process, need updates on your students’ status, or just want to brainstorm ways to support your students better, we’re here to help. Reach out anytime!
GSU Materials and Swag
Want to decorate your counseling center with some Panther spirit? We’re happy to send GSU materials, including brochures, pennants, t-shirts, stickers, and more! Use them to spark excitement about Georgia State and share with students who are considering their next steps. Complete our form to get started!
Tours & Campus Visits
Nothing beats experiencing Georgia State firsthand! Encourage your students to visit our campus and see what makes our Panther community so special. Whether it’s an individual visit or a group tour, our Welcome Center offers personalized experiences that highlight our state-of-the-art facilities, urban campus life, academic programs, and the heart of downtown Atlanta.
MyMajors Assessment
Not sure which GSU major fits your student best? Share the MyMajors quiz to help them explore career paths and majors based on their interests and strengths. This tool is a fantastic way for students to start thinking about how their passions align with academic programs at Georgia State.
Test Optional Policy Update
Starting with the Fall 2026 admissions cycle, GSU will require standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) for admission consideration. While our current test-optional policy remains in place through Fall 2025, we encourage you to advise your current junior students to start preparing and take the SAT or ACT early.
To best support your students, here are some helpful resources:
- Official SAT Practice – Free, personalized practice through Khan Academy.
- ACT Academy – Free ACT prep resources available at act.org/academy.
- Georgia Futures Test Prep – Find study guides and additional resources here.
Remind your students to plan ahead and take advantage of these tools to feel confident on test day!
