Admission for Other Student Types

Nontraditional

Students who graduated high school at least five years ago and have not yet attended college.

Postbaccalaureate

College graduates who want to take more undergraduate-level courses without pursuing another degree.

Re-entry

Former Georgia State students who have not registered for courses for the last three semesters.

Transient

Students enrolled at another college or university who would like to take classes at Georgia State and apply their credits to their home institution.

Admission Requirements for Other Student Types

Nontraditional

Nontraditional First-Year

Nontraditional first-year students graduated high school at least five years ago and have not yet attended college.

Requirements

Applicant must take and pass the ACCUPLACER examination and must achieve satisfactory minimum scores in all three sections:
- Nex-Gen Reading: 237
- Writeplacer: 4-8
- Nex-Gen QAS Math: 258
Applicants who do not meet minimum scores in all three test sections will not be granted admission.
There is a $28 fee for taking the ACCUPLACER exam.
Upon receipt of the official ACCUPLACER exam scores from the Georgia State Testing Center or an accredited institution that offers the ACCUPLACER, the applicant will be contacted in writing about admission or denial.

Why is the ACCUPLACER examination used?

Georgia State, like many other units of the University System of Georgia, uses the ACCUPLACER for an individualized evaluation to measure how prepared an applicant will be for college-level courses. Satisfactory scores in all three test sections is a good indication an applicant should be successful at working toward a college degree.

What if I do not feel confident starting college-level coursework just yet?

If you’re concerned that your high school preparation may not be adequate to enroll in college-level courses, you may consider enrolling in an accredited, local two-year unit of the University System of Georgia, such as Perimeter College, and then seek to transfer or transition to Georgia State’s Atlanta Campus.

Steps to Apply

Online applications are processed only when accompanied by fee through a credit card or checking account system. Paper applications are processed only when accompanied by a check or money order.
3	Submit required documentation. Submit official supporting documents (high school transcript, GED scores, SAT/ACT scores if available).
4	Check your Application Status.

Postbaccalaureate

Postbaccalaureate status is not available in the College of Education & Human Development. An applicant seeking teacher certification in an area other than art or music must apply as a transfer student.
Financial aid is typically not available for postbaccalaureate students.
Postbaccalaureate students should be prepared to provide a personal copy of a transcript that documents completion of required prerequisites for Georgia State courses.

2	Pay the application fee. Georgia State requires a $60 non-refundable application fee that can be paid along with your application submission. Online applications are processed only when accompanied by fee through a credit card or checking account system. Paper applications are processed only when accompanied by a check or money order.
3	Submit required documentation. Have an official transcript sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions from the institution awarding your baccalaureate degree or higher. Student copies of transcripts, opened transcripts and faxed transcripts are not acceptable.
4	Check your Application Status.

Re-entry

Re-entry students are former Georgia State students who have not registered for courses for the last three semesters.

Application Process

To apply for re-entry, complete the re-entry application online, and submit the non-refundable $25 application fee by the application deadline.

If you are admitted as a re-entry student and do not register for the term for which you applied, you must submit a reactivation application to be able to enroll for one of the two subsequent terms of entry. If you wish to register for a term after this time period has passed, you must submit a new application and fee by the posted deadline.
If you were on scholastic suspension from Georgia State, you must wait one calendar year before applying as a re-entry student. Please reference the Course Catalog for more information about scholastic suspension.
If you have been on scholastic exclusion from Georgia State, you must wait five or more years before applying as a re-entry student. Please reference the Course Catalog for more information about scholastic exclusion.

Reactivation Application

A student’s application is valid for a total of three terms of entry, including the term marked initially on the application and the following two terms of entry. Students who wish to be considered for a term of entry within this time frame must complete a reactivation application and any required credentials by the application deadline date for the desired term of entry.

Once the two additional terms of entry have passed, the application and application fee is no longer valid. Students who do not reactivate their application during this allotted time are required to submit a new application, new application fee and any new transcripts (if applicable) to be considered for admission.

Transient

Transient students have enrolled at another college or university and would like to take classes at Georgia State, applying their credits to their home institution. Transient students can only attend one fall or one spring semester. However, students may apply to attend unlimited summer semesters. Please note, financial aid is not available for transient students.

Students must:

Be eligible to return to their home institution
Have permission from their home institution to attend Georgia State as stated in an official transient/permission letter

Note: If you have attended Georgia State before as a transient student and wish to return as a transient student, you must submit a reactivation application and an updated statement of permission. If you wish to change your status to a transfer student after attending as a transient student, you MUST file a new application to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and submit a new $60 non-refundable application fee.

Submit a transient/permission letter signed by the registrar or academic dean at your current institution recommending you as a transient student.

The letter must indicate the specific term you plan to attend Georgia State University.
The letter may also include a list of courses to be taken at Georgia State University.
A Letter of Good Standing from institutions outside the state of Georgia may be acceptable.

GSU-62

Requirements

The following minimum requirements must be met in order for an applicant to receive a GSU-62 waiver:

1	Must apply and submit all required documentation by the deadline, meet ALL admission requirements for selected program of study and be accepted
2	Must be 62 years of age or older as of the first week of the semester
3	Must be classified as a Georgia resident in accordance with the Regents’ requirements for residential status

Note: An applicant who has received a bachelor’s degree and wishes to take undergraduate courses without being admitted to a degree-seeking program must complete the postbaccalaureate application steps above. For graduate admission requirements, refer to the online information for the graduate program in which you are interested. GSU-62 benefits do not apply to courses offered by the College of Law.

Registration

For GSU-62 students to receive a waiver for tuition and fees, applicants are required to register during late registration on a space-available basis.
Check the semester calendar for the semester in which you will be registering to determine the first date of Late Registration.
GSU-62 students are not able to register until the first day of Late Registration. GSU-62 students are not responsible for the cost of tuition and mandatory fees. However, they are responsible for laboratory fees or supplies for language courses, music, science, etc.
GSU-62 students may opt out of the program if they wish to register prior to Late Registration. Students who opt out will be assessed regular tuition and fees and will not be covered by the waiver. It will be the student’s responsibility to pay tuition and fees by the payment deadline if they choose to opt out of the GSU-62 program.
The applicant will be responsible for all student fees associated with obtaining a Georgia State identification card (Panther Card).
