Steps To Apply
Try the Transfer Credit Predictor
You will need to pay a $60 nonrefundable application fee when you submit your application. You can use a credit card or authorize a draft from a checking account.
- After you pay this fee, your application will be valid for the fall, spring and summer semesters of one full academic year.
- If you submit your application but need to change your entry term to another semester within the same academic year, complete a Reactivation Application.
- If you submit your application but need to change your entry term to a semester in another academic year, you must submit a new Undergraduate Application and application fee.
Note: Deadlines are subject to change.
We’ll need your official transcripts from every college or university you’ve attended. Schools may send them to us electronically through an approved transcript company at electronictranscript@gsu.edu or mail them to us here:
Office of Undergraduate Admissions
Georgia State University
P.O. Box 4009
Atlanta, GA 30302-4009
Georgia State’s approved transcript companies are Parchment, Escrip-safe, National Student Clearinghouse, Credential Solutions or Joint Services Transcript.
Tips
- If you’re still enrolled in classes when you submit your application, you will also need to send us your final transcripts upon completion of your coursework.
- We do not accept student copies of transcripts, official transcripts that have already been opened or scanned, faxed or emailed copies of transcripts.

If you have completed fewer than 30 semester credit hours or 45 quarter credit hours of college-level coursework, you’ll also need to submit an official high school transcript and electronic test scores for the SAT, ACT or both. For more information, review our requirements for high school applicants.
*This information is for reference only and does not automatically guarantee or preclude the transferable course credit. Equivalencies are subject to change upon official evaluation by Georgia State.

Requirements & Guidelines
To transfer to Georgia State, you must:
- Have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5 for all college-level coursework attempted at previously attended regionally accredited institutions. (Excludes developmental and remedial classes.)
- Have completed 30 semester credit hours or 45 quarter credit hours of college-level coursework. If you haven’t met this requirement, you’ll need to submit an official high school transcript and electronic test scores for the SAT, ACT or both. For more information, review our requirements for high school applicants. Check course credit equivalencies using our new Transfer Credit Predictor at gsu.transfer.degree.
- Be eligible to re-enroll at the last institution you attended.
- Have completed all Required High School Curriculum units and Learning Support coursework required by any previously attended University System of Georgia school.
Note: Admission to Georgia State is a selective process. Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee acceptance.
You may receive transfer credit for courses at accredited institutions of higher education as long as the courses parallel Georgia State’s curriculum. The department administering the degree program determines how credit hours may be used to satisfy specific course requirements and may elect to test the student’s proficiency in transferred course work.
Transfer Credit Guidelines
- Check course credit equivalencies using our new Transfer Credit Predictor at gsu.transfer.degree*.
- Development, vocational and occupational courses are not acceptable for transfer credit.
- You can apply no more than 12 semester credit hours of D grades — whether as resident credit (completed at Georgia State) or transfer credit — toward your degree requirements. No credit will be awarded for a course completed at a foreign institution with a grade that is equivalent to a D in the U.S.
- To be acceptable for transfer credit, English composition courses must have been completed with a grade of C or higher.
- Additional restrictions for transferring D grades may be included in certain degree programs.
- Courses completed at two-year colleges are typically awarded lower-division credit.
- You can earn no more than 30 total semester hours by extension or correspondence.
- Georgia State does not grant credit for college-level General Educational Development tests or courses completed at the United States Armed Forces Institute or any U.S. armed forces service school, except for military academies.
Academic Residence Requirement
To earn a bachelor’s degree from Georgia State, you have to satisfy our academic residence requirement:
- Earn 39 credit hours at Georgia State for courses numbered 3000 or higher with a grade point average of at least 2.0.
- Complete one-half of the courses that constitute your major or 11 credit hours in the major, whichever is less, at Georgia State.
Note: You cannot use credit by examination, credit by validation, credit earned through College Level Examination Program tests or Advanced Placement courses, or credit for courses specifically excluded by university policy to meet the academic residence requirement.
*This information is for reference only and does not automatically guarantee or preclude the transferable course credit. Equivalencies are subject to change upon official evaluation by Georgia State.
To qualify for in-state tuition, you must establish Georgia residency. Here’s how that works:
- You or your parent(s) must have lived in Georgia for at least 12 consecutive months immediately before your enrollment at a college or university.
- If you entered Georgia to attend an educational institution, your time in school is not normally counted toward the 12-month residence requirement.
- Your “legal residence” is your permanent home.
- You must not only live in Georgia but also intend to remain in Georgia indefinitely.
