Since the pool of students who apply to Georgia State is different each year, the level of academic performance necessary for admission to the Honors College is different as well. Acceptance rates are dependent on the number of applicants, their academic qualifications, and the space available. As individual applications are considered to determine applicants’ demonstrated capacity to contribute to the intellectual life of the Honors College, some of the factors evaluated (in no particular rank order of importance) are:
- Academic grade point average in core courses
- SAT or ACT scores
- TOEFL, IELTS or Cambridge English Exam (for applicants whose primary language is not English)
- Honors essay question response
- Number of and performance in Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate Higher Level and transferrable college courses
- Class rank (if provided) as of the end of the junior year
- Rigor of the senior-year program as measured by the type and number of academic courses in progress or planned
- Outstanding performance in a specific subject area, or outstanding special projects in any academic area of study
- Special talents, achievements and awards, or completion of special academic or service projects
Students who have submitted the Common App without completing the Honors College essay response are strongly encouraged to submit the Honors College Evaluation Request Form. Essay tips and other helpful information can be found on the Honors College application resources page.
