Georgia State is test-optional for first-year students with a 3.4 or higher GPA. GPA will be calculated in-house by our International Admissions team based on your international secondary school credentials. Applicants with a GPA below 3.4 are encouraged to submit test scores. If you apply without test scores and your GPA is below 3.4, you may be placed into our Summer Success Academy or Panther Gateway Program, or admitted to Georgia State University’s Perimeter College (which offers two-year pathway programs at the associate degree level). Perimeter College students can transition to the Atlanta Campus to pursue a bachelor’s degree program once they have obtained a 2.0 or higher GPA at Perimeter College and 30 or more credit hours.

First-year students applying to Georgia State University through Summer Semester ’25  may be admitted without SAT or ACT scores with a recalculated high school GPA of 3.4 or higher (recalculated based on the 17 units of the Required High School Curriculum). First-year applicants with a high school GPA below 3.4 are encouraged to submit test scores. If you apply without test scores and have below a 3.4 GPA, you may be placed into our Summer Success Academy, Panther Gateway Program or admitted to Georgia State University’s Perimeter College (which offers two-year pathways at the associate degree level). First-year applicants to the Atlanta Campus can submit their applications for Spring, Summer and Fall Semesters 2024 starting Aug. 1, 2023, through the Common Application. We strongly encourage those seeking an early action admission decision to apply by Nov. 15, 2023.  

If you have 2.0 or higher GPA, you are not required to submit your test scores for with your application for admission. However, you may still be required to submit ACCUPLACER scores.

First-year students applying to Perimeter College must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher (recalculated based on the 17 units of the Required High School Curriculum) to apply for admission without test scores. Students with a GPA below 2.0 will be required to submit test scores. SAT, ACT and ACCUPLACER scores are accepted.

There is no minimum test score requirement to be considered for the Stamps and Presidential scholarships. The Honors College follows a test-optional policy, so there is no minimum test score requirement for Honors College consideration. If you choose to submit your SAT and ACT scores, the committee will consider them, but these scores will be used as just one part of a broader evaluation process. The primary focus of the assessment is on students’ essays, grades, coursework and recommendations. It is important to note that reported test scores will not automatically qualify or disqualify students from Honors College consideration. 

While test scores are not required for admission to the university, you may submit official test scores for merit-based scholarship consideration (as some scholarships may require them) and to enhance your overall academic profile.

Official SAT scores can be sent via the College Board’s website using our code: 5251. ACT scores can be sent via ACT.org using our code: 0826. ACCUPLACER test scores will be automatically added to student applications within 24 to 48 hours for students testing at a GSU Testing Center location.

PSAT score reports can be sent to us by email directly from your high school counselor to [email protected].

If you have a GPA of 3.4 or higher, it is not necessary to submit your test scores to Georgia State University. We are test-optional for applicants with a GPA at or above 3.4, so you can choose whether or not to include your test scores as part of your application.

Georgia State University’s International Admissions team will evaluate students’ IB transcripts following the exact curriculum requirements in the five subjects and add weight to the number of IB courses the students take. We ask for 4-year transcripts, not just IB results. 

Learning Support coursework is designed to provide additional academic support to students. Typically, students with a recalculated high school GPA between 2.0 and 2.74, and those deficient in the 4 English/Math units of the Required High School Curriculum may be required to enroll in Learning Support coursework. These courses are considered corequisites, meaning they must be taken alongside college-level Math and English courses. Once a student successfully passes both the Learning Support class and the college-level English/Math courses, the Learning Support requirement is removed.

If a student wishes to exempt themselves from Learning Support coursework, they can submit ACCUPLACER test scores. The required scores for exemption are as follows:

• WritePlacer score of 4
• Reading score of 237
• Quantitative Reasoning Score of 258.

ACCUPLACER is a testing platform that includes a series of examinations on writing, mathematics and reading.  The ACCUPLACER Exam includes texts and tasks students will likely encounter in their first-year college courses, and the math content aligns with state college and career-readiness standards. Georgia State University uses the ACCUPLACER for both admission and placement testing.

The Math department has also approved the test for placement in specific mathematics courses, including College Algebra, Precalculus and Calculus. ACCUPLACER serves various purposes within the institution.  Please register for the correct exam based on your specific intent to avoid surprises on test day. To ensure your ability to register for courses, please complete the ACCUPLACER Exam before attending New Student Orientation.
