REVERSE TRANSFER
What is Reverse Transfer?
Reverse transfer is a process where academic credits for course work completed at the Georgia State Atlanta Campus are used to satisfy associate degree requirements for students who previously took classes at Georgia State’s Perimeter College. See below for reverse transfer eligibility requirements.
Some students transition to the Georgia State Atlanta Campus prior to completing their associate degree at Perimeter College. Among them, a certain percentage gains bachelor’s degree eventually through a combination of credits earned from both institutions. Through Reverse Transfer, a student’s achievements are recognized with an associate degree after they have transitioned to the Atlanta Campus and have accumulated the credits needed to fulfill the two-year degree program requirements. It’s value added to your education.
What are the benefits of earning your Associate Degree?
Holding an associate degree can make a difference in your long-term success.
Here’s how:
- An associate degree can provide you better job opportunities while you’re completing your bachelor’s degree.
- An associate degree is the nation’s fastest-growing work credential; employers recognize its value when recruiting and hiring.
- Students who earn an associate degree are more likely to complete their bachelor’s degree, too.
- There is no risk to you. Even though you are applying the hours you have earned at the Georgia State Atlanta Campus toward an associate degree, your hours earned will still apply toward your undergraduate degree.
- The number one reason is, that you may have already earned an associate degree.
Who is eligible for reverse transfer?
- Students who have started at any of Georgia State’s Perimeter College campuses and are now attending the Atlanta Campus.
- Students who have earned at least 25 percent of the credits applied at Perimeter College. This is roughly 15 credit hours.
- Students who have accumulated at least 60 credits between their associate degree-granting institution and any transfer institutions that apply toward the degree.
- Students who have earned a 2.0 GPA while at Perimeter College only.
- Students who have cleared all holds that may prevent them from graduating.
How do students earn a reverse transfer degree?
- Run your Academic Evaluation and check to see if you have completed your requirements or are close to graduating. You will look to see if your core curriculum and Area F are completed or close to completion.
- Great news: There is no graduation fee to pay, and you don’t have to complete an application!
- If you answered “Yes” on your transition application to the question, “Do you agree to have an associate degree awarded if you have earned it?” you are all set. If you answered “No” or “N/A” to that question, email us at [email protected] and tell us “Yes” (you want your associate degree). Please include your Panther Number in your email.
- The reverse transfer team will review your records and send you an email to let you know your status.
- The team will provide feedback if any course work is missing or still needed.
- If you are cleared to graduate, you’ll officially earn your degree at the end of the semester.
